Addiction Does Not Discriminate! It doesn’t matter what sex, race, creed, or religion you are. Also, whether you are rich, poor, old or young, the disease of addiction can happen to anyone. We are not that unique and we are all pretty much the same because we are human. So, if you are struggling with an addiction there is no one to blame. Addiction just happens to those who start gambling, drinking alcohol or using drugs.
In the rooms of recovery there is a saying addiction affects everyone from Yale to jail!” So, if you have the disease of addiction then there is no cure for it but it is treatable. One recent article discusses how bad a gambling addiction can be and the signs of a problem.
Families across our country often don’t understand the disease of addiction. The parents of one former patient wondered what went wrong with their daughter. She was brought up in a loving home, she was well educated, exercised and ate healthy. They just could not grasp the idea that their daughter had become an addict. Often times this is the case for many families. It is no fault of their own when a child becomes addicted. A child could also come from a broken home and become an addict. But the opposite is true in both of these instances. No matter which environment a child is raised they can lead a successful life. It really depends on how each person chooses to handle whatever life brings to them.
Therefore, no matter what the circumstances are if you are an addict you will always be one. Accepting the idea that you cannot safely handle one bet is the key to living a successful life. Because once an addict begins gambling or introduces substances into their system all bets are off and the person will end up in jail, institutions or possibly death. Those are the options for any addict who chooses to gamble, drink or drug. The beautiful thing about recovery is that we come from all walks of life and we can learn so much from each other. Find yourself a recovery support system and live the dream!
