Things Gamblers Do to Hide Their Addiction.
When an individual has become an addict they will do almost anything to avoid stopping their addiction. Not only is the idea of ending the addiction problematic for them but hiding it from everyone is too. Many addicts will also go out of their way to keep their addiction a secret. It’s amazing what he or she will do to prolong something that is so harmful.
So let’s talk about some of the sad things gambling addicts will do to hide their addiction. Many will buy their lottery tickets from different stores or buy in bulk claiming they are giving them away as gifts. Compulsive gamblers will often hide money losses. For instance, a person might take out cash from the ATM to make it look like it’s money they won. They casually take it out in front of people claiming they are still up money when in fact they are down big time!
Other ways he or she might cover up their addiction is by borrowing money from several different people. They may tell a story how they have an unexpected car repair that needs to be taken care of immediately. Or they have a medicine that is very expensive and they cannot afford to buy it. The point of all of this is to not show any red flags of a gambling problem.
Addicts come up with all sorts of excuses when it comes to missing work or being late. One former patient actually called her work and told them that her son had run away from home. She explained to her boss that she would not be in to work until the matter was resolved. Another patient claimed that he had a bathroom accident and would be late for work.
Also, there are a number of other excuses people will use to deceit their loved ones of their gambling problem and they get away with it! But this is temporarily because continued gambling will eventually catch up with them. One thing for sure is that their addiction will send them to jail, hospitals (rehab), and sadly some will end up in a grave. If you are one with a secret addiction, getting help is your best option!
