Williamsville Wellness is the only treatment center in the US licensed to treat Gambling, Alcohol, or Substance abuse as a mental or physical illness. As such, changes to the mental health laws are on the top of our minds.

As far as changes go, the two bills proposed seem to address some serious issues on the first read. Both bills address key problems with how HIPPA is interpreted and applied, as well as allowing Medicare to assist or cover short-term psychiatric stays, such as a 28-day Gambling rehabilitation program. Both bills also address the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), adding a direct supervisor of this administration.

There are many pages to the bills, and many concerns about the implementation of the provisions. At Williamsville Wellness, we consider the bills being proposed to be a very positive step forward.
