About Stephen

Stephen Smith is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) who has been working with our team at Williamsville Wellness since 2021. Stephen completed his Master of Science degree in Clinical Mental Health and Rehabilitation Counseling from Virginia Commonwealth University and brings specialized expertise as an EMDR therapist to our comprehensive treatment approach.

As part of our multidisciplinary team, Stephen has extensive experience working in a variety of settings within the mental health field, including addiction services, crisis services and Community Service Boards, as well as in-home work with children/adolescents and their families. This diverse background allows him to bring valuable perspectives to our collaborative treatment environment.

Stephen's approach to therapy is trauma-informed, person-centered, and experiential. Working with our treatment team, he aims to help people achieve change through improving their connections with themselves and their emotions, gaining insight into their issues, and forming better connections with others. His primary areas of focus are the intersection of addiction with issues of trauma, anxiety, depression, shame, and interpersonal relationships, incorporating techniques from EMDR, CBT, Motivational Interviewing, and emotion-focused and mindfulness-based approaches.
